Costas Kekis – Bounce

Bounce is a performative ritual of personal and collective repair. The group of five performers work through shared sensorial physical practices of emotional resilience, driven by the need to care, cure, withstand and thrive. Next to the dark sounds of Tanja Fuchs aka Abu Gabi, the performers are relying on the physical perception of the self, the space and the other in order to form a choreography of private and shared histories in their search for endurance.

Emotional resilience describes the ability of a person or a group of people to recover from a traumatic experience and thrive after it. In Bounce the individuals are exploring sensorial responses to effect emotional state and develop tools and systems of endurance. Hovering around emotional spaces of uncertainty and pressure, the performers are relying to their own senses to seek for relations of support, care and empowerment.

Bounce is an embodied and embedded process towards an ecology of perception, that is, the way the activity of our senses functions to bind our separate nervous systems into the encompassing environment and thrive – or in other words: to bounce back.

January 8-18 2020

I will be a guest at the Tanztage Berlin festival as part of the Life Long Burning programme. I will be attending shows, meeting participating artists, taking part in roundtables and writing about certain shows.

Every year in January, Tanztage Berlin provide a platform for the city’s emerging choreographers. In the 29th edition, queer-feminist and postcolonial perspectives intertwine to form a complex reflection on today.

Some of the participating artists are Areli Moran, JUCK, Caner Teker, House of Living Colors, Lois Alexander, Maque Pereyra, Sasha Amaya, Frida Giulia Franceschini, Amirhossein Mashaherifard, Suvi Kemppainen + Josefine Mühle, ZTB e.V. and more.

January-March 2020

I will be mentoring Claire Lefèvre in Vienna as part of her scholarship within Tanzquartier Wien. We will be clarifying and discussing philosophical concepts, which appear in and inform late choreographic discourse in the European context.

March 2020

A dear artist, Lau Lukkarila, will be premiering their new solo work, Nyxxx. I am happy to be part of this project as a dramaturgical and artistic assistant. The premiere will take place in the frame of Imagetanz festival in Brut Wien.
